Revcontent Celebrates International Women’s Day and Partners with National Center on Sexual Exploitation

Today, we are excited to celebrate International Women’s Day, a day meant to recognize the achievements of women around the world, while calling for gender equality. International Women’s Day first began in 1909, where women campaigned for equal pay and voting rights. We have come a long way since then, but with recent stories of sexual misconducts in the news and the rise of the #MeToo movement, it goes to show we still have a long way to go.


We are committed to leading the conversation of empowering women and recognizing the value they bring to the world. We admit that in the past, our industry has faced issues with the content of the ads. Because of the culture we are living in today, it takes major changes to impact the way we portray women.


We are excited to announce that we have been working with the National Center on Sexual Exploitation to implement that type of change. Revcontent is the first content recommendation network in the world to earn a seal of approval from the National Center on Sexual Exploitation for the quality of our content and for banning all sexually explicit content in our network.


As an industry, these changes are necessary in order to take our commitment to the user experience and quality to the next level. We have always had policies restricting explicit content, however we have made changes to further limit advertisers from using provocative content for clicks. We recently banned all content in our network classified as Maturity Level 3, which includes sexually objectifying images.


“Sexual misconduct and exploitation is a massive problem that this world faces on a daily basis,” said John Lemp, CEO and founder of Revcontent. “As a Christian and someone who was shocked by the amount of stories that have been shared through this movement, I wanted to ensure that Revcontent was doing its part to eliminate sexually explicit imagery, headlines and landing pages, not only in our network, but in advertising as a whole.”


“We need to change the advertising industry to reflect the importance of this movement,” Lemp said. “We cannot allow sexually explicit imagery to continue to degrade women if we hope to win the fight against sexual harassment and assault. It is a mindset that needs to be destroyed, and we can all do our parts to help create that change.”
